Journey Against Time
On War and Minds (pt. 1)
Essay & Film by Isus, 82 Min
"On Wars and Minds" is the first part of the series "Journey Against Time. In a single narrative stream of speech, images, and music—interwoven with protests against the economic and cultural militarization of German society and youth, and underscored by a trip to the 2022 G7 protests that will reach its destination in Elmau in the final part of the film series—historical events from Germany’s past, or related to it, reveal their violent presence today, a presence that, in “our” societal concept of history, is based on forgetting, repression, and denial.
Adressing the images from Gaza, the film initially points to the technological level of society's perception of violence and subsequently traces a path through historical narratives.
It establishes a historical link to the founding of the Bonn Republic and West German rearmament, examining the narratives used to legitimize Germany's involvement in the war in Gaza. The issue of denial and forgetting is addressed by recalling the Armenian Genocide. The unusual interweaving of these diverse topics, which are widely separated in time and extend to today's anti-militarist youth protests, creates a cohesive whole as a "Journey Against Time." In this journey, the intertwined relationships move beyond their temporal appearance to come into historical focus. Requests go to: isus (at) ik.me
